Covid-19 has changed a lot in recent weeks. However, the core building team continues to meet on a monthly basis via the internet. We are committed to working together to seek God and what His desire is for New Hope and the property.

Currently, the building team is working to evaluate the existing architectural drawings, trying to create phasing and overall plans that are more conservative financially. Given the national and local economic uncertainty, we want to be prepared to be more creative and efficient as we consider building plans. We trust that this pandemic is not a surprise to God, and that He is writing our story. We continue to believe that He will provide in His way and in His time. Would you please pray with us?
The core building team is pretty confident that these drawings encompass most of what our church ministry plan calls for. However, we are also certain that there is much room for improvement and alterations. Please take time to look over the drawings below if you haven't already. If you don't understand something, please ask a building team member to clarify or explain. And if you haven't already offered feedback, snag a building team member to let them know what you think, both pros and cons. There will be refinements, phasing, and perhaps even major adjustments before a building plan is totally nailed down. But this is a solid starting point to help us dream and envision...

Carmenhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/01108010046425400111noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8347113702351689121.post-73146555596807740902019-12-11T06:44:00.001-08:002019-12-11T06:44:34.291-08:00RecentlyIt ended up being a snowy, cold night when we held our "come view floor plans and provide feedback" gathering. There was a healthy turnout, however. We heard from a couple of core building team members regarding the process to this point as well as information for how to understand the floor plans and site layout. Then we broke into two smaller groups for discussion. The core team heard a number of thoughtful questions and helpful suggestions. We have multiple things to revisit and prayerfully hash over in the coming weeks and months.

However, based on the feedback and initial review from those present, the core building team felt comfortable moving forward with a street-level rendering from the architect. While there is still plenty of opportunity to shift some space or reallocate some space usage, we feel relatively confident that we have good direction to inform a drawing to show what the building "could" look like. This drawing will be especially important for the cultivating team to have as they move forward with fundraising efforts. Be watching for that drawing soon!

With recent holiday schedules, the building team has not had much opportunity to meet, but at our next meeting we will discuss how to make building plan documents and floor plan drawings available to more of you who would like to view those. In the meantime, feel free to initiate with a team member if you have not had opportunity to see that information.

Thank you for continuing to pray:

--For the core building team, that they would be able to hear openly from those who have questions and feedback regarding the building plan and that those people would truly feel heard and considered.
--For unity as we move forward towards a specific plan.
--For the cultivating team as they start to implement their fundraising plan in the coming months.
--That God would lead and provide as only He can!Carmenhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/01108010046425400111noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8347113702351689121.post-68349520024067417912019-11-20T17:32:00.004-08:002019-11-20T17:32:33.829-08:00Join us Friday

We want to remind you that you are invited to join the core building team at the Greenhouse, Friday night from 6:30-8:00.

The time will begin with a brief summary of the team's process and considerations to this point, followed by explanation of the architectural plans as they exist currently. There will then be space for questions, conversation, and input. We hope you will come!

Come join the core building team as we review the process we've gone through to this point, and share an initial floor plan sketch. This will be a great opportunity to learn more about the building team's process and to get first looks at a possible floor plan. Plan to bring your curiosity and your questions. The building team covets your input.

Other action at the property this week involved some final demolition and site work. If you've driven past, you might have noticed some equipment rolling around. Our demo crew was back to finish removing the pool and some sidewalks, as well as to bring in fill dirt. After filling the pool, they will regrade the site to aide in optimal water drainage until we are ready to prepare the site for building.
They were very helpful in cleaning up in and around the place. There will be steady work and upkeep needing done between now and whenever we are able to break ground, so groups like this are a blessing to us all! If you happen to talk to a guy from Farmhouse, be sure to express gratitude. THANK YOU, FARMHOUSE!
The kind that makes your brain hurt? Like them or not, the building team finds ourselves working on a rather large puzzle, trying to work towards a general floor plan for the new building.

You might be surprised to hear that it's challenging. But it's true! There are so many variables, desires, and limitations. Our team spent significant time early on trying to really understand each existing ministry within New Hope, along with their needs, desires, and potential pinch points with growth in a new space. This formed a document we call the "ministry plan". Then we put together a building plan document based on the ministry plan evaluation. It was a lot of written descriptions of the spaces we deemed a priority within the new building, along with what spaces needed to share access and so on. We also tried to address the need to plan for future expansion if that should become necessary. Then we passed that to the architect.

In recent weeks, we have been working with the architect firm, Anderson Knight Architects, to land on a floor plan that will work well for New Hope. We reviewed an initial sketch and sent it back with requests for revisions. This past weekend, our team was presented the revised floor plan, and we all agree it is getting closer to fulfilling the needs and desires we outlined in the ministry and building plans. But there is still some tweaking to do, and the architects will keep working on it this week.

We understand that some of you wonder why this is taking so long, and what could possibly be so difficult. If you can imagine a really complicated brain-teaser puzzle in which all the pieces must be moved to fit just perfectly, it's a little like that. You might move one piece to where you think it goes, but then, as a result, all of the other pieces move farther from where you want them. Every piece of the puzzle impacts the other pieces.

There are a number of "pieces" our team has to consider in addition to trying to fulfill the space needs we identified in the ministry plan. For one, we have the existing lobby building to consider. We have gone round and round about the best use of that existing space. Those conversations have also explored the wide range of expense vs. cost savings involved in how we use that space. Obviously, what we put in that space dictates a lot about what needs to be built new, however, being an existing building, it has it's own limitations. Additionally, there is an underground sewer line on the property that we have to consider. To move the line, would cost us significantly more money than our church is willing to spend, so we have to maintain a sufficient building easement from that line. We also have to consider parking spaces and how to maintain as much of the existing parking lot as possible in order to save money, and in order to simply have enough parking for the church. These are some of the "pieces" that are just part of the existing land and what it dictates. Then you add in considerations for traffic flow inside the building, security for kidsLIFE spaces, how the new space relates to the existing building, etc. and there is a lot to juggle.

Hopefully, that is some helpful insight into the process. If you are feeling eager to see progress in the form of a picture, rest assured, the building team is just as eager to provide one. Please be praying that God would guide our process, causing all the pieces to fit in the most honoring way possible.

Know also, that if you have questions or want to hear more in the context of a conversation, the building team members are happy to visit. It's difficult to relay details of our process through large group meetings and written communication. Please reach out to a staff member if you don't know a building team member, and the staff can get you connected.

Thank you for reading, and thank you for praying!

Conversations with professionals outside of our church. The building team has conversations frequently with various people like architect staff, electricians, plumbers, city officials. May God use this building and the heart of New Hope to draw these people to Himself.

The architectural drawings. Pray that nothing would be overlooked, and that the plan would be one that can serve our ministries well for many years to come.

That God would show Himself to be the writer of our story. May He continue provide for New Hope in ways that only He can.

For enthusiasm and unity of vision for our whole church body as we long to make much of God.

That has been a theme of the past month for the building related teams. We had to wait for the Kansas Department of Health to give the "all clear" for the property following asbestos abatement. We had to wait for the architect to draw initial floor plan sketches. We met to review the initial sketches, and then we had to wait for the architect to return from vacation. As a church, we are all exercising patience in this process, trusting that God is the one moving this project forward.

But there are some action items to report! The site has been cleared by asbestos authorities, and we have had a follow up meeting with the architect who is now drawing revisions. The cultivating team has sent out an initial email to alumni, and they are working to prepare upcoming communications. We have been working to get electricity hooked up again since we had to disconnect and tear apart aspects of it during demo. A group of FarmHouse guys plan to come work this Saturday to help with various cleanup/grunt labor tasks. And with the cold forecast for this week, we have been working to winterize the buildings to prevent issues with frozen pipes.

The building team knows that everyone is most eager to see some architectural drawings. We are excited to have some to share as well! Please continue to pray for the process, for clarity and direction, and for God-glorifying conversations between the team and architect. When we have drawings to share, there will be opportunity for feedback and opportunity for forming sub-teams of people willing to start thinking through the details of each ministry space. More on all of that in the weeks to come!

In the meantime, let's be a church characterized by prayerful patience. Some things we can pray for...

It is much less of a liability now and it's easier to envision the possibility of the land. There will be additional demo of the pool and some sidewalks, and then some dirt work to follow, but we are thankful for the progress to this point.

The core building team recently secured Anderson Knight Architects to work on preliminary concept drawings for a building. We anticipate receiving the initial draft within the next two weeks. From there, we will be able to tweak design ideas and consider different phasing possibilities for the future. It will be exciting to finally get to "see" a glimpse of what our team has been working towards, and in turn, to share it with you!

Lastly, if you haven't already, be sure to mark your calendars for Sunday, October 6th, when we will have a church family meeting following the service. During that time, you will get a (hopefully) concise update about things happening across the building, finance, and cultivating teams. There will also be time for some Q&A, so we hope to see you there!

And as always, thanks for praying.
--For initial architectural floor plans to be thorough and without any oversights regarding what we truly need in the space.
--For God to provide financially for our church and this project. He has been so good to do so to this point!
--That the Lord would make this project about the greatness of His name, not ours.
The Fall semester is upon us! With the return of college students, including many new internationals, we are looking to connect with those who may have use for some of the remaining furniture and appliances we have stored from the hotel buildings. We have continued to give things through the care portal, and may be able to contribute some items to the HIS furniture giveaway coming up soon. If you know of anyone wanting or needing a refrigerator or microwave at a discount price, let us know!

This week, our core building team will be receiving a proposal (like a bid) for initial concept drawings from an architect in town. We will need to review that proposal and present it to the finance team before we give the go ahead. Once the architect is able to move forward, the design team will be working from the pre-design document (facility plan) we put together for them. It outlines our church's space needs, values, and desires as best as we understand them. If you're interested in seeing the written facility plan the core building team diligently put together, you can read the full document HERE.

Lastly, many of you have likely noted that much rubble still remains on the property. You can know that it has not been forgotten about. We are working with our demolition contractor, who has been so kind and generous towards us, and he will be getting the lot cleaned up in the coming weeks.

God continues to graciously guide the multiple teams of people who are working on various tasks related to the property and future building. What a humbling process it is to know that He is faithful and is zealous for His own glory. May He continue to show Himself faithful to our church community as we take steps forward in faith.

Please continue to pray:
-For our potential architects and the work their design team will do soon. Pray that God would guide their creativity and work, and that their hearts might be open to the gospel as they interact with people of New Hope.
-Pray for wisdom and clarity for all of the volunteer teams involved. The finance team, the cultivating team, and the core building team are all meeting regularly and need God's leading for decisions.
-For unity and expectancy among the people of our church as we labor to make God known to those around us.Carmenhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/01108010046425400111noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8347113702351689121.post-40857013512353928832019-07-30T20:34:00.000-07:002019-07-30T20:34:43.866-07:00Update 7/30/2019Three weeks have passed since we last posted here on the blog. Somehow, the summer months have a way of flying by like that! Between camps, vacations, the July 4th holiday, and various other summer commitments, the core building team has not met in person as much this month. However, we have tried to be faithful to keep working on things as each person is able.

As mentioned in the last post, the core team has been working to wrap up a pre-design packet to hand to an architect. In the process of fine tuning it, we have needed to camp out on a few sections more than anticipated in an effort to be as accurate and unified as possible. But it is SO close to being ready! We've had some conversations with local architects and hope to soon determine whose services we will use for some initial facility sketches.

We have also been working to coordinate what needs to happen with remaining demolition cleanup. In the meantime, we have an iconic "stairway to heaven" on the property that has people talking. Now to come up with a clever message for the sign...

Thanks for continuing to pray. Please pray for these things...

--For perseverance and encouragement for the core building team and their families

Look at the progress! The demo crew was amazed by how much rebar was in the structures, and because of it, they had to crunch away at the concrete walls and roof more slowly than originally anticipated. But the hotel buildings are down! The property will look much like this for the next week or two as the demolition machines must be pulled away for some other jobs with tight deadlines. But they will be back in the coming weeks to finish clean up of the site.

Other news is that the core building team is in the process of procuring an architect to work on initial concept design drawings. In preparation for that work, the team is finishing up a large pre-design document that will be given to the architect team. The document is a culmination of much of the work and analysis done to this point as it seeks to outline space requirements and needs, goals, and values for each ministry space. Please be praying for continued wisdom and discernment as we edit and finalize this step.

Thanks for reading, seeking to stay updated, and for praying! Know that the teams of people involved in the building project desire to keep communication open and flowing among our church body. Law enforcement vehicles lined the front of the parking lot and cones blocked off entrance to the property. Here are some photos...

After many weekends of work, final gleaning efforts at the property wrapped up this past Saturday. We are so thankful to all who contributed numerous hours of labor in the attempt to salvage all we could. And while it may not be as dramatic as the fall of Jericho, hotel walls will begin tumbling down soon! Demolition crews will start the process this Wednesday or Thursday. The look of the property will change drastically over the coming weeks!

Behind the scenes, volunteer teams related to the building have been meeting consistently in recent weeks. The Building Team continues to work through rough financial estimates for construction and sustainment costs of a building. The Cultivating Team is laboring to develop vision, revamp the church website, collect contact information, and develop an overall communication plan. And last, but not least, the Finance Team is prayerfully considering many aspects of financial health for our church in this next season and how to care for our church family from a stewardship perspective. Thank you for your continued prayers for these teams of volunteers.Carmenhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/01108010046425400111noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8347113702351689121.post-2622149104690523892019-06-06T08:53:00.002-07:002019-06-06T08:55:17.771-07:00Update 6/619

If you've had any thought about offering your time and energy to help mow at the hotel property, check this out! New Hope now owns a fancy, fun to use mower! Please add your name to the volunteer spreadsheet (link at the top of this page) or get in touch with Tom Grogan directly to discuss the mowing/trimming needs.

Additionally, we can report that the trailer of copper seen in the previous post brought in about $4000. God continues to provide through the salvaging efforts, and we have just a few more weeks to pull things out before demolition. We can use all the help we can get, so plan to come out on Saturday or coordinate to help during the week if you're more available then. It would be a great investment of your time!

Thanks for your prayers:

Pray for endurance and perseverance for those who have been committing significant time and energy at the property and behind the scenes. Pray that they would have wisdom and freedom in taking time to rest as well.

Pray for continued unity and clarity of vision for everyone in New Hope.

Pray that God would captivate our hearts through this season and continue to give us stories of His faithfulness.

Thanks to a group of you who showed up to help this weekend, there is another trailer full of copper ready to take to salvage. Some estimate this is close to double what was harvested last weekend, so we're hoping it's worth about $5000. For reference, that is about equivalent to New Hope's KidsLIFE budget line for a year. That's a good day's work!

Other things in motion this past week included...

Preliminary movement of the property boundary between the hotel buildings and the North building was successful as part of being ready to sell the North building.

The Finance Team and Cultivating Team have both been working behind the scenes to help New Hope be successful in communication and financial stewardship through this building project.

Initial calculations were done to begin assessing realistic costs of sustaining a future building. The core building team will continue to revisit these numbers as we work through the facility plan.

A storage pod was purchased and moved onto the property to house the new mower along with P-TAC units and other salvaged goods yet to be delivered to buyers.

Demolition work was scheduled for mid to late June, but may be contingent on flood emergencies around town in the coming weeks.

Between now and mid-June, people will be at the property working on Saturdays. Consider coming out to help! If Saturdays don't work for you, let us know and we can get you (and your family or small group) set up with a project to be completed when you're able. Any time and effort is appreciated.

As that looms near, efforts to salvage materials from the hotel buildings continue. There are door locks and P-Tac units (air conditioners) that still need to be pulled out, and plenty of miscellaneous furniture and small appliances that could be useful to someone. A group of folks have been working diligently to remove copper piping throughout the buildings, and that has proven to be a worthwhile effort. The first day's effort resulted in this check!

In recent weeks, as both the Cultivating and Building Teams have met, momentum has been gaining towards the building master plan. The cultivating team has been putting together a plan for communication, and working to get tools in place to enable them to engage our community well. Additionally, the building team has continued to work on pre-design concepts, discussed building costs, and is working on initial numbers for a sustainment plan. These conversations will continue to be worked out as our teams move back and forth between them. Pray with us that the master plan picture becomes more and more clear as we drill down through these things.

One thing that continues to stir a sense of worship is to see how God has given people within our community such a wide variety of gifts and temperaments. We pray that this building project would continue to be a process that cultivates teamwork in New Hope as we each offer our strengths and vision for God's work. Continue to pray and consider how God might want to use your skills and resources, both for the building and for His redemptive work among people.
This is an exciting picture! During this week's Core Building Team meeting, Brad Buser got us started working through a predesign process for the church facility plan. It was exciting for the team to start talking about specific spaces and functions for the building.

As we discussed various aspects of the church building, we drew on knowledge gained from previously going through the church's ministry plan. It was encouraging to realize that the disciplined work of past months was bearing fruit in giving our group direction and vision for how spaces could be used well.

Here are just a handful of snippets that have stuck out to our group as we have processed the ministry plan. We envision that a building of our own could equip us to have/do these things...

Spaces (with more varied functions than the Greenhouse provides) that can be used all throughout the week by New Hope members and others in the community

Sound and audio/visual equipment that can stay in place from week to week

A designated space for our Fusion youth to meet for large group times and for smaller studies

Multipurpose space(s) that can be setup to function in different ways for different groups/times of the week.

Opportunities for more than one group or ministry to meet on site at a time

Parents could have more natural opportunities to overlap with Fusion students and their events

Designated KidsLIFE rooms that are outfitted specifically for the kids/teachers using them each week with no need to set-up and tear down

A configuration that provides increased security for our children's ministry

Classrooms to provide childcare options for groups meeting throughout the week

Possibilities for community outreach and hosting events

Space for partner ministries to meet and hold events

A playground and inviting outdoor space to encourage connection

A welcome/information center where it is more clear how to get connected and involved

Comfortable spaces for small groups of people to sit and talk

More visibility to the community and accessibility to a different pocket of Manhattan

These possibilities are exciting to us as we've prayerfully considered what makes our church unique!

Please continue to pray...

for guidance and discernment for this next stage of planning.

for volunteers to help with mowing and upkeep at the property this summer.

that God would continue to captivate our hearts more than a building.

The Cultivating Team (capital campaign team) met for the first time this week, and we were excited to hear about their discussion and their desire to communicate a vision that invites people to be part of something more than a building. That team is made up of Bob and Sandie Anderson, Dick and Nancy Jaques, Jodi Pribyl, Robbie Nutter, Melissa Harstine, and Tony Classen. They have some great ideas and will begin meeting regularly to put together a plan.

If you joined us at the April 14th all-church update, you will recognize this slide summarizing the process that the Core Building Team is working through.

This week, the team eagerly transitioned from the ministry plan to taking a closer look at finances. Thankfully, with the knowledgeable Finance and Cultivating Teams in place, the Building Team doesn't need to camp out here for very long. We will be able to jump into the initial stages of the facility plan next week, recognizing that all of these plans are going to be worked out in tandem from this point forward. As we get a clearer picture of what space we might build, we will grasp the financial numbers associated with construction and, in turn, sustainment. Measuring those against the church's financial reality, we will then make adjustments back and forth across all of these plans. It will likely be a process of determining phases for the long-term plan, all the while, watching to see how God provides.

Also this week, we received what we needed from the city to move forward with publicly listing the North Building for sale! It will be listed locally as well as on national lists, in order to get it on the radar of commercial investors across the country. Please continue to pray for its sale.

The Gleaning Team efforts are officially wrapping up, and we are determining final opportunities to connect left-behind hotel items with people who could use them. If you haven't already, please make a point to thank these people for their work behind the scenes. Gleaning team members include Sandie Anderson, Dan Flippo, Nate Harstine, Jon Pagel, and Karyn Clanton.

With that step nearly done, we are arranging for demolition of the buildings we will not keep. The Riley County Police Department has contacted us, and they would like to use one of the hotel buildings for officer training. We are coordinating with them and intend to demo quickly after their training. That demolition date will be sometime in mid-June. There will be some easily visible changes coming to the property soon!

Thanks for continued prayers...

for direction and clarity for all teams as plans are made and carried forward.

for how God wants to use you and your gifts

that we would remain unified as a church, healthily viewing the property as a tool for God's work through us.

Carmenhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/01108010046425400111noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8347113702351689121.post-2514098804228844712019-04-22T12:08:00.001-07:002019-04-22T12:13:55.797-07:00Update 4/22/19We hope you enjoyed a sweet time celebrating Easter! If you happened to miss our all-church building team update on April 14th, you can listen to that HERE. We didn't reveal any earth-breaking news, but our goal was to try to be open about our process, get a gauge on what questions or concerns are out there, and welcome feedback. Please reach out to a building team member if you have any thoughts or questions for us.

As we shared in the update, our team's next step is to work through our financial plan. This will be a dynamic process that is done in tandem with the church Finance Team (who met last Sunday) and the Cultivating Team (who will be meeting next Sunday). We are working this week to individually wrap our minds around several financial reports and ledgers we have, so that during our team's meeting next Sunday, we can be efficient with our time.

Lastly, we have compiled a Google Doc where we intend to list odd jobs and needs we have at the property. Hopefully, this will be a way to help everyone see what needs to be done, and allow for people to serve as they have time and ability to help. Check it out at this LINK.
You will notice that one of the greatest needs we have currently is for someone to take on the role of "mowing coordinator" through the summer months. Would you be willing to coordinate volunteers and help make sure the property is mowed on a regular basis? Let us know!

Thanks for your continued prayers...

For everyone involved in trying to understand and map a path forward in regards to church finances. May we be diligent stewards while believing God to provide in ways only He can.

The the city would sign off on necessary items, so that we can publicly list the North Building for sale.

For continued unity and clarity of vision among members of our church.

Carmenhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/01108010046425400111noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8347113702351689121.post-84642034195339678322019-04-02T19:29:00.000-07:002019-04-03T06:55:11.720-07:00Update 4/2/19Another week has passed, and there are several things in motion that we can update you on.

Invitations have been extended to several people, asking them to consider serving on the capital campaign team. That group is forming, and hopefully, we can introduce them to you soon!

The gleaning team has orchestrated some deliveries of various goods, and they continue to finalize sales. They are working to determine the most effective way to move forward with what remains.

We still intend to sell the North building. It has been shown to a few interested parties, but we are waiting on the city, needing to finalize some details with them before we can list it publicly. These types of things don't seem to rank as "urgent" for city officials, so it's been a slower process than we'd like.

In the building team meeting this week, we worked through a couple of the last pieces of the New Hope ministry plan. We discussed the LIFEgroup ministry as well as auxiliary ministry groups that we partner with on some level like campus ministries and HIS. It was intriguing to explore some of the existing needs and consider possibilities that may exist in having a building of our own. In that same conversation, we examined how the Greenhouse has been used, and how it has served people and ministries in the community who don't otherwise have their own office/meeting space. While we are yet uncertain about what space(s) we will be able to create and offer for people's use, this discussion was another valuable one as we add layers of understanding to how a space could benefit our own church body and others in the community. It is exciting to consider the many ways a building space could function and be used all throughout the week.

Don't forget...Plan to join us on April 14th, following church, for a building team meeting update. We hope to paint a vivid picture of the process we are in the middle of, as well as hear your questions and feedback. Hope to see you there!

Thanks for praying:

For those stepping up to help with capital campaign

That the gleaning team could finish up their task fruitfully

For a meeting with the necessary city officials in order to get the North building listed publicly

That we would all hear God and sense how he wants to use this process and this building in our church and for His work in our town.

Similar to the workers in the painting above, our gleaning team has been diligently working. I think that at times, they have wondered if their time and effort was being spent in vain, but thankfully, it is paying off. Checks are coming in, and we hope to have a semi-final total to share with you soon!

If you have been keeping up with updates and announcements, you know that we recently asked for nominations of people to serve on a capital campaign team. There is still time to nominate someone if you'd like, by emailing jwiebers@gmail.com. We have an initial list of names, and we plan to start contacting those people this week in order to ask them to prayerfully consider serving our church in this way. Thank you for continued prayers for the formation of this group, and you can look forward to an introduction to the team once it is formed.

Mark your calendars for April 14th! You're invited to join others of New Hope for a family meeting following church that Sunday. This will be a chance to connect with others, as well as to hear an update from the core building team. We will aim to share the process we are engaged with as we see it thus far. Hopefully, the time will stir questions and feedback from you as well. More details are to come!

We agreed that we need to get a team of the people formed who can begin the work of planning and preparing for this. However, as we deliberated about what their task would be, we acknowledged that "capital campaign team" doesn't seem to capture fully what they will be asked to do. "Capital campaign" might connote a negative idea to some in our community, perhaps giving the sense that the team is just hungrily searching for money. While an obvious and unashamed part of what this team will do is ask for money, we agreed that it is much more than that.

The people who comprise this fundraising team will be trusted with the job of researching and putting together a strategic plan. There will be administrative tasks. They will ask for money. But most importantly, they will be tasked with communicating well the heart and vision of New Hope. This is the key. We hope and pray that in the fundraising effort, the focus isn't just on dollar signs and getting a fancy facility. Rather, we hope there is a compelling vision with a longing to help better equip our church for the sake of God's kingdom. This is what we want people to give towards.

For weeks, we, the building team, have been seeking to get an accurate grasp of the "DNA" of New Hope. In doing so, we are more excited than ever about the unique personality and calling God has given our church in the Manhattan community. We think a building of our own will be an invaluable tool as we minister in our town. Are you someone who gets excited about communicating that vision? Do you know someone who is naturally enthusiastic and able to draw others to a cause? Who in our church body is a skilled communicator and vision caster? We need those people! Would you please take a minute to consider who you think could be a good fit for the fundraising team, and let us know at jwiebers@gmail.com?

Additionally, would you help us come up with a name for the "capital campaign team" that better encompasses the role of sharing vision and communicating well? If you brainstorm any ideas, please send those on to jwiebers@gmail.com as well.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

And for those following our progress as we work through our church's ministry master plan, you might be interested to know that we are almost done. We talked through momLIFE and women's ministry this week, and will tackle Fusion, Team 127 and campus ministries in the coming week(s).

Please be praying:

For perseverance and continued momentum for the building team. Pray that they would lean into God and seek rest even as they work diligently.

For gleaning team sales that should wrap up soon...multiples transactions should be finalized this week!

That the North building would sell.

For the formation of the fundraising team.

This is such a vital and vibrant part of our church, and we want to make sure we set up for success at the new property!
It might be interesting to note some of the numbers and considerations we interacted with--

<span style="font-family: "calibri"; font-size: 11pt; vertical-align: baseline; white-space: pre-wrap;">We currently have 110 children enrolled in kidsLIFE with about 80 of them present on a typical Sunday morning.

<span style="font-family: "calibri"; font-size: 11pt; white-space: pre;">-Nursing mom’s room
<span style="font-family: "calibri"; font-size: 11pt; white-space: pre;">-Nursery: 7 students (3 volunteers)
<span style="font-family: "calibri"; font-size: 11pt; white-space: pre;">-Walkers: 9 students (3 volunteers)

<span style="font-family: "calibri";">Our children's ministry is fueled primarily by volunteers, 12 lead teachers who teach twice a month, 60 helpers who assist once a month, and 12 more adults who are available as substitutes. That means 70-80 of us are involved with our children each month!

We discussed the challenges the ministry faces, as well as what challenges and opportunities having our own building could present. With growth likely at a new facility, maintaining appropriate class sizes and keeping volunteer-to-student ratios low are ideals we need to plan for.

During our discussion, everyone on the team agreed that our church is so blessed to have Kira Buser as our kidsLIFE director! The amount of time, thought, and prayer she has given to the ministry was evident. If you have the chance, be sure to thank her for working with our kids, and if you really want to bless her, consider offering to help out in one of our kidsLIFE classes as a volunteer. You can contact her at kirabuser@newhopeks.org.

He believed that by examining an issue deliberately and thoroughly, he could come to a confident conclusion that wouldn't need repealed later. Similarly, we (the core building team) are striving to make well-examined decisions while maintaining forward momentum.

Our team continues diligent work on master plan aspects of our building project. Most specifically, we are finalizing a comprehensive look at the long-term vision of New Hope, specific ministries of the church, and space requirements of those ministries in order to assess more clearly our building needs. This step in the process can be painstaking. It can be tedious. Yet, it is invaluable. As a team, we continue to agree that is helping to bring clarity and unity, and for that we are excited!

Thank you for praying:
-That the building team would work efficiently and with a sensitivity to the Holy Spirit leading them.
-For a buyer to come along to purchase the North building.
-Isaiah 43:19--that God would make Himself known as the One who makes things new through this building project.Carmenhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/01108010046425400111noreply@blogger.com0
